Independent editorial demo · Not an official British Museum website

Site information / Privacy

Privacy, in plain English.

This demonstration is designed to be read without an account, tracking tools or a connected contact service. Here is what that means in practice.

What this notice covers

This notice describes the supplied static Museum Visitor Guide website. It is an independent editorial demonstration about the British Museum and London, not an official museum service. It does not describe the museum’s own website or any other website reached through a link.

No real operator identity or active contact channel has been supplied for this demo. This notice is an explanation of the archive’s intended technical behaviour, not a verified compliance statement or legal advice. Before introducing any collection of personal information, the owner must add genuine controller and contact details, assess applicable obligations and publish an appropriate, accurate notice.

Reading the pages

The supplied HTML does not intentionally set cookies, use localStorage or sessionStorage, run analytics, include advertising trackers, or embed third-party media. Images, styling and scripts are included in the archive rather than loaded from external font or media services. There is no account system or database.

If you open these files locally, there is no website server involved in delivering the pages. If you access a hosted copy, your browser must request files from a server. The host or platform may process information such as an IP address, requested address, time, browser details and security events in its own access logs. A preview platform may also add its own services. Those settings and retention periods cannot be established from this archive alone.

Contact and newsletter demonstrations

The contact form and any newsletter form in this demonstration do not send entries to a server, subscribe an address, create a mailing list or save submitted information. JavaScript checks fields locally and displays a message explaining that the service is not connected. There is no recipient and no background transmission of form contents.

Text you type remains visible in the current page until you clear it or leave it. Your browser may independently offer autofill, restore a page or retain browsing history according to your settings; this site does not control those browser features. Use fictional information to test the forms, and never enter sensitive material.

External links take you to services with their own privacy notices and technical arrangements. The receiving service can obtain the usual connection information when you visit, and your browser may provide a referring-page address according to its settings. We do not control the museum’s booking, contact or visitor-information services. Review their notices before submitting information there.

Your choices and a future live site

You can read the archive offline, avoid the demo fields and choose not to follow external links. Browser settings can manage history, autofill and site data. There is no intentional tracking in the supplied files for you to opt out of, and no site-held form records to access or delete.

If you are concerned about a hosted copy’s server logs, consult the actual host or operator’s published information. A live owner must explain any real processing, purposes, legal basis where relevant, recipients, retention, rights and contact routes before collecting data. Adding analytics, embeds, functional submissions or other services requires a fresh review of this notice and the cookie information.
